RALEIGH, NC, (Nov. 18, 2015) – Smiles were contagious on Tuesday night among members of Boys & Girls Clubs (BGC) of Wake County, who were presented with 1,000 free mouth guards from Delta Dental of North Carolina. Wake County Commissioner Jessica Holmes joined the organizations for the presentation.

Delta Dental believes it is important to recognize the organization’s sports teams and to educate the members on the importance of protecting their teeth. The children put the mouth guards straight to use with a friendly game of basketball at the event with Holmes and Delta Dental of North Carolina CEO Curt Ladig.

“Tooth trauma is very common; in fact, 25 percent of 12-year-olds suffer injury to their permanent teeth,” Ladig said. “Healthy teeth are important for healthy lives.”
Throughout the month of October, Delta Dental ran a like campaign on Facebook to support the BGC. For every new like the Delta Dental page received, the organization committed to donate one youth mouth guard.
“Boys & Girls Clubs is very fortunate to have such supportive members of the community, like Delta Dental, to ensure our 4,800 members have the chance for great futures,” said Daniel Pietrzak, Boys & Girls Clubs’ vice president for resource development and marketing. “With the large variety of sports we offer, 1,000 mouth guards will ensure they also have great teeth!”
Holmes spoke about the benefits of organizations coming together to make a difference in the community. “It was a privilege to celebrate an initiative between Delta Dental and Boys & Girls Clubs to ensure that our children maintain their healthy smiles. Delta Dental is a wonderful example of how companies can and should give back to the communities they serve,” Holmes commented.
Third-grade student and BGC member Tyshon shared, “Boys & Girls Clubs has great programs, like football, soccer and basketball. I like Boys & Girls Clubs, because we get to be active in those programs. You get to do great things at Boys & Girls Clubs!”
